Fort Worden Oral History Program

NEW! Comprehensive Oral History Interview List Now Available

Since its inception in 2003, the volunteers of the Fort Worden Oral History Program have collected almost 300 interviews with the men and women who have served, lived, worked, or visited Fort Worden over its long history. The interviews tell of the real life experiences of those who served at Fort Worden during the military era; who worked or lived here during the Juvenile Diagnostic and Treatment Center days; or have visited, participated in activities, or worked at the fort since it became a state park conference center.

These interviews, which have been transcribed and cataloged, form a rich treasure trove of stories that should be mined for source material by historians, students, genealogists, and writers. If you want to access the cataloged list of these interviews, click on one of the links below:

The Fort Worden Oral History Program collects oral histories, writings, photos and memorabilia from those who were at Fort Worden during a memorable period of their life.

We are collaborating with the Library of Congress Veterans History Project to collect oral histories of veterans and wartime civilians who were based at Fort Worden. A record of these interviews will be registered with the Library's national database , and the tape, and the memorabilia will be stored in Fort Worden State Park archives (click here for a listing of the archived interviews).

Participant categories:

Interviews will be conducted as well with participants in the Juvenile Training and Treatment Center, and participants in activities at the park for the last 30 years. These memories on tape and any donations of memorabilia from the interviewee's time at Fort Worden will be carefully documented and preserved in the Fort Worden State Park archives.

As a candidate for this Oral History Program we invite you to come to Fort Worden to be interviewed by a trained interviewer in a comfortable setting. While you are alone with the interviewer, hospitality and interesting displays will be available for any companions who might accompany you. The recorded interview will be 90 minutes long. Click here to see the Biographical Data Form which we would use to familiarize us with you and your experiences.

We hope you will take this opportunity to leave a legacy for future generations by sharing your memories. We look forward to your contribution.

You can get started by completing the Veterans and Alumni Form now! Please indicate when you can visit the park and if you would like to do an oral interview.

Thanks!
