Friends of Fort Worden is seeking volunteers for treasurer, fundraising chair, social media manager

The Friends of Fort Worden State Park is recruiting to fill these key positions on its board of directors.

The Friends is an all-volunteer nonprofit service organization. The typical workload for these positions is 8 to 10 hours per month. Relevant volunteer or professional experience is helpful but not essential.

Board Treasurer (Officer)

The board treasurer is responsible for oversight of the finances of the Friends of Fort Worden:

·       Maintaining and reviewing financial records and preparing quarterly financial reports and budgets.

·       Attending monthly board of directors’ meetings to address financial concerns or questions.

·       Assisting bookkeeper in depositing revenues, approving payment of invoices, and classifying revenue and expenses to appropriate general ledger accounts.

·       Assisting accountant in preparing the annual federal nonprofit tax return.

·       Assisting board secretary in preparing financial reports for the Washington Secretary of State and Washington State Parks.

SKILLS: Detail-oriented individual with basic bookkeeping skills and knowledge of general accounting practices. Familiarity with QuickBooks Online accounting software is a plus.


Fundraising Chair

Responsible for leading our Fundraising Committee to define our strategy and plan fundraising activities. Manages outreach to our donors. Researches and assists in grant writing.


Social Media Manager

Responsible for sharing information and photos about the Friends of Fort Worden and other park activities on Facebook, Instagram, NextDoor, and Bareboards. Explores other social media to promote our activities to a larger audience. Serves on the Marketing/Communications Committee.

 

Friends Background

As stewards of the park, the Friends of Fort Worden provide financial and volunteer assistance for projects and programs not funded by Washington State Parks. The Friends work closely with Fort Worden park managers to assess park needs, review project status, and coordinate efforts.

Our projects include noxious weed control, habitat restoration, trail maintenance, historic building improvements, trail maps, interpretive trail and facility signs, and installation of park benches, bike racks, and telescopes.

Washington State Parks selected the Friends as a Volunteer Group of the Year because of our impact on preserving and enhancing Fort Worden as a recreational, historical, educational, and natural resource.
